Stephanie Lindsey, the creator of Baby Jane, is a native Texan who was born in Dallas, grew up in Houston, and got to Austin as fast as she could upon graduating high school in 1987. Her formal art education began with a pre-college arts program at Otis Parsons Art Institute in Los Angeles before she enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin, where she completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art in 1992.
