Autobiographical in nature, the paintings of Amber Shields offer a visual complexity that is at once engaging and familiar. Influenced dually by her training in Santa Cruz, California and the environment of her current residence in Los Angeles’ Chinatown district, Shields’ lush paintings combine ornate patterns and vibrant colors to reshape and enliven everyday subject matter.
Utilizing a fine art background, she depicts life through the eyes of a twenty-something making her way in Los Angeles thus providing a unique glimpse into youthful, urban womanhood. The illustrative quality of her work combined with a classical technique gives Shields a distinctive and feminine approach in today’s pop-art dominated scene. As a member of the artist collective, BOXeight, Ms. Shields has gained commissions for private & corporate clients throughout the west coast and hopes to expand her name internationally.
Shields’ clients include Epic Megalopolis Productions, the Santa Monica Hospital, D.O.G. Boutique, The Lyric Theatre, and has recently been represented by The Cactus Gallery in Eagle Rock.
Amber Shields is also the illustrator of "True Confessions of an Online Dating Addict," a weekly singles column/comic strip.
